School Uniform Policy & Cost Guidance

At The Khalsa Academy Wolverhampton (TKAW), we believe a clear uniform policy fosters a sense of community identity, personal pride, and equality. In accordance with the Department for Education's (DfE) statutory guidance on the cost of school uniforms, we are committed to ensuring that our uniform remains affordable, practical, and accessible for all families.

We minimise uniform costs by limiting compulsory branded items to essential elements only and allowing generic items to be purchased from high-street stores or supermarkets. However, we expect all pupils to wear the correct school uniform and PE kit.

Uniform Summary & Requirements

  • Compulsory branded items (via Crested Schoolwear, Units 26–27 Wulfrun Shopping Centre, Wolverhampton, WV1 3GH, 01902 593030): TKAW Blazer with Badge, TKAW Tie, TKAW Grey Jumper / Cardigan.
  • Compulsory generic items (any retailer, high-street store, or supermarket): white collared shirt; grey tailored trousers (touching shoes when standing); grey knee-length skirt (worn with tights); plain black flat shoes (no logos, trainers, or boots); plain grey or black tights or socks.
  • Compulsory PE kit (via Crested Schoolwear only): Navy TKAW PE Top; Navy TKAW Training Top; Navy TKAW Shorts, Track Bottoms or Leggings; Navy TKAW Socks. Plain base layers may be worn under PE kit in winter months.
  • Uniform and PE kit orders can be placed via the Crested Schoolwear website: https://www.crestedschoolwear.co.uk/product-category/schools/j-l/the-khalsa-academy-wolverhampton/
  • Religious items & dress: headcoverings in plain black or dark blue (no durags, patterns, or sequins); articles of faith (e.g. Kirpan, Kara, Salai/Baaj) permitted in accordance with school policy.

Our Commitment to Affordability & Sustainability

  • Minimal branded items: day-to-day uniform keeps specialist-supplier items to three (Blazer, Tie, Jumper/Cardigan). PE kit is ordered separately, also via Crested Schoolwear, to keep the whole school in one consistent kit and to keep other-brand sportswear (and its price pressure) out of the changing rooms.
  • High-street flexibility: shirts, trousers, skirts, socks/tights and footwear can all be bought from any budget retailer or supermarket. PE kit is the exception — it must be branded TKAW kit ordered via Crested Schoolwear, to keep the whole school in one consistent, recognisable kit.

Support for families: families experiencing financial hardship or needing guidance on uniform items are encouraged to contact their child's Head of Year in confidence.
